Clothing, gender and bodies
Dec. 16th, 2020 03:46 pmAbout a month ago I had another episode of "no clothes to wear, must have pockets".
I present femme out of habit more than anything, though my shape does lend itself (under protest) to the hourglass side of things.
Lady clothes are light on pockets, way too short for my 5'10" frame and are generally flimsy or poorly made (I can and sometimes do make my own clothes).
So, to the men's section of a department store. Because I'm light on funds, it's a pandemic and I don't like how round I am.
The imaginary clothes police didn't get me and out I go with a pair of cargo shorts.
For the first time in years I have a pair of shorts that are knee length. They're not bunching in my groin and they're long enough to be done up at the waist and I'm in no danger of giving myself a wedgie.
I have a pair of shorts that can carry my purse/wallet, my phone and my keys.
The waist number is a little confronting at 44 inches, though this is where the Real Difference between men and women become more obvious.
They're tight across my front, though there's a gap in the back.
It's about half an inch worth of dart either side of my spine and they'll sit almost perfectly.
A lot of the reason for the high waist number is so that the pants go over my hips/arse.
I'm currently being lazy and wearing a belt rather than doing any tailoring.
One of the reasons I'm using is that the fabric is sturdy and will hold up to the abuse of wear like this.
Women's clothes may fit me in the waist/hip ratio, but they rarely fit my thighs. I've had large sizes not fit my calves.
It's complete nonsense.
It's time to start living the dream and shop less often, spend less money and get better quality clothing in the men's section.
If you cross any divide, I'll teach you to tailor.
